KorAP: Glemm (Word Formation)

The Glemm option extends the lemma search of the COSMAS II query language to compounds and other word formations, for example to find all compounds with Mittel as their last element. It is based on the morphological analysis by glemm, a program developed at the IDS that was already available in COSMAS II.

Status in KorAP

Glemm is new and experimental in KorAP. There is no KorAP documentation yet; the syntax and meaning of the options are described in the COSMAS II online help (in German). Compared with COSMAS II, there are the following differences:

Known issues

Examples

The examples only return the described matches if Glemm is switched on.

Compounds of Mittel:

&C&Mittel

Additionally with other word formations and special cases, including hyphenated compounds:

&COS&Mittel

Only compounds with at least two elements (excluding Mittel itself):

&COS>1&Mittel

The same with Mittel as first or as last element:

&COS>1E&Mittel
&COS>1L&Mittel

Word formations with the affix anti- and at least two elements:

&CO>1&anti-

Caveat

The decompositions result from an automatic morphological analysis and are not complete. Queries with Glemm may therefore miss forms that other queries find, and their value for quantitative analyses is limited. See the section „Vorbehalt“ of the COSMAS II help for details.
